DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS

What's your character's name? Nickname(s)?

Corporal Maladicta. She has 2 pages worth of extra names, as vampires collect names like humans collect stamps. These are never mentioned. She calls herself 'Maladict' to get into the army. Her friends call her 'Mal' (to which she once dryly calls herself 'Uncle Mal') Strappi calls her 'Private Bloodsucker'.

Game specific: Mark Hunter affectionately calls her 'Sarge', even after she pointed out that isn't actually her rank

How old is s/he?

Never stated. She's 'young for a vampire' which puts her in the 60ish range. She LOOKS about 19.

Nationality? Birthplace?

Borogravia. Presumably. She does mention to Polly that none of them are 'from around here', but it could be she was referring to that particular part of the country. As most vampires have roots in Überwald, it's safe to assume she at least spent some time there.

Academic Background:

Never stated. She was probably schooled by a tutor in the castle back home.

Occupation/Job Experience:

None before joining the army. Women aren't given much chance to have any decent careers, vampires even less so. Regardless, she comes form a wealthy family, she had no need to find work.

Attitude toward management? Attitude toward Unions?

Given her attitude towards those of a higher rank to her, she doesn't think much of them. This, of course, is more a typical vampire trait than anything. Almost all Discworld vampires have a tendency to believe they are superior to all others. This snarky better-than-thou attitude is what makes Strappi decide she's a threat, and Jackrum see her potential.

Attitude toward the various jobs s/he's held?

She is not a fan of what the military are doing to her country. In fact, she finds it a severe waste of life on all sides. Joining the army was at first a means to an end, a way to escape home. By the end of the novel, however, she has decided that she can do good by remaining in the army. Albeit by pulling strings to steer it in a better direction.

Character's ambitions?

She doesn't really have any. After all, she will live forever, what's the point of setting herself goals that will only take less than a fifth of her lifespan to complete? She much prefers to wing her way through existence, dealing with things when and if they turn up.

Military Experience?

THE ENTIRE BOOK. She runs away from home, and joins the army, posing as a young man. After their current corporal deserts, she is put up the ranks from Private to Corporal. She keeps her rank, even after being exposed as a woman. She is part of the Tenth Foot Light Infantry, also known as the Cheesemongers, Ins-and-Outs and later known as the Monstrous Regiment.

Reaction to his/her military experience?

It gives her some meaning to her existence again. She didn't really know who she was, after giving up blood and essentially having to reinvent herself. The army gave her a new family, a reason to live and fight. A way to make good in the world, and perhaps even atone for her past life. It also made her realise how terribly in shape her country is, she found that she actually gave a damn about the people of Borogravia. She honestly wanted to make things better after her experience in the army.

Any traumatic incidents while in the service?

Corporal Strappi (having both issues with her attitude and vampires in general) destroyed her coffee machine before he deserted the army. This took away the vital crutch she needed to deal with her blood addiction. This turned out to be a very bad thing. She steadily started to lose her mind, having Flashsides and getting more and more aggressive. Her self-enforced conditioning finally broke, and she very nearly attacked her entire regiment. It was only for the fact Buggy dropped a bag of coffee beans on her head that a bloodbath was prevented.

Aptitudes?

She's a fairly good shot and (despite the fact she's half-crazy when she gets most of her ideas) is a good military strategist. She uses cover to hide, goes straight for the guy trying to down his poisoned message full of military secrets. Thanks to being a horrific thing once in her life, she can deal with traumatic experiences and images very well. She understands the greater picture is often obscured by little ones, which still need to be dealt with as best she can. Basically she is a very good at being a soldier.

Character's general intelligence level?

Like most vampires, she's very smart. She's got the majority of a human's lifetime experience under her belt already at her 'young' age. She's very observant, very, very little gets past her. She doesn't know everything though. After Otto tried to explain how sending pictures over the Clacks worked, and she relayed it to the rest of her regiment, her response to how it worked was: 'Oh, I didn't understand what he said. It was all about...numbers. But it certainly sounded clever'.
